I love music. It stirs inner waters. As children we learnt Rabindra Sangeet and Nojrul Geeti. We sang in school in the choir and in college. By then, I could play the piano and chords on the guitar. I play by ear and don’t read any music. Rendering popular Indian melodies on the piano is what I like doing most.
Jazz, Rhythm and Blues, Pop, Rock and Instrumental music of any kind are preferred listening. I like the sound of Ella Fritzgerald singing Cole Porter, Adele, Shaun Colvin, KT Tunstall, Fatboy Slim, George Benson, White snake, Henry Mancini, Sade, Don Mclean, Amy Winehouse, Bill Withers and many others. From Indian films, the music particularly of the 50s, 60s and 70s.
I work closely on the music for all my films with Arjun Sen and Andrew Ferrao. Arjun is amongst the most sophisticated composers I know of and Andrew is the best keyboard player I’ve met. Music is a leaning and a language, and we speak it easily with each other.
